Forecast reasoning
"Slop" won 2025 Word of the Year from Merriam-Webster, the American Dialect Society, and others, but "AI slop" only won Macquarie Dictionary's 2025 award. Major 2026 selections haven't been announced yet with 37 days until market close, and prediction markets show other terms favored over both variants.
Settlement
Resolution criteria: - "Yes": Wins if "slop" or "AI slop" (including any hyphenated or multi-word variant such as "AI slop" treated as a single unit) is officially named Word of the Year for 2026 by at least one major English-language lexical authority (including but not limited to Oxford University Press, Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com, Collins, or the American Dialect Society), with that announcement published strictly after 2026-10-25T09:48:57Z and at or before 2026-12-01T08:00:00Z. - "No": Wins if no such announcement naming "slop" or "AI slop" as Word of the Year 2026 is published by any major English-language lexical authority strictly after 2026-10-25T09:48:57Z and at or before 2026-12-01T08:00:00Z. Clarifications: - "Major English-language lexical authority" refers to organisations with an established annual Word of the Year programme, including Oxford University Press (Oxford Word of the Year), Merriam-Webster, Dictionary.com, Collins Dictionary, and the American Dialect Society. - A word wins as a unit of meaning: "AI slop" counts as a single expression if designated as such by the announcing organisation. - Announcements made after 2026-12-01T08:00:00Z are not considered, even if they relate to the 2026 calendar year.
